Title: Research in information systems at the University of Maryland
Abstract: The authors provide an overview of the research program in information systems in the College of Business and Management at the University of Maryland, College Park. The program is based on two premises. First, it is believed that effective research in any one of the three areas of concern (technological, organizational, and economic) in information systems must accommodate the impact of the results upon the other areas. Second, it is believed that an understanding of computer and information technology is vital to the conduct of research on information systems. Based on these premises, Maryland has assembled a group of technically qualified researchers who recognize the importance of organizational and economic factors on the effective engineering of information technology into the machinery of business and organizational enterprise. This overview describes the centers of information systems research and the major research programs, which focus on topics in these areas: database management systems; knowledge-based systems; information system analysis and design; telecommunications and distributed systems; and the management of information systems.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
