Title: On the Phenomenon of China English in Chinese-English Interpretation
Abstract: China English is a noticeable phenomenon in Chinese-English interpretation; its two major manifestations can be seen in the use of “unnecessary/superfluous words” and in “Chinese syntax sentence structures”. Beginning with a definition of the difference between China English and Chinglish, the paper analyzes the causes for this phenomenon from various angles: linguistic causes; environmental causes; habitual thinking pattern causes and situational causes. The paper proposes a number of remedies to help fix this phenomenon, and while the suggestions offered may be practical and simple, but they are demanding. It also points out that it is impractical to eliminate the existence of China English and suggests viewing this phenomenon objectively and pragmatically; people should accept China English as one of the many types of English in the family of world Englishes. Hopefully this paper may serve as a guide and reference to those who are endeavoring to do in-depth research in this field.
