Title: Background Conditions and Current Situation in Irrigated Rice Farming
Abstract: In the Philippines, irrigated rice accounts for only about 35% of the total crop acreage, but makes up over 60% of the country’s rice production. Since 1960, due to the zealous efforts of government institutions to set up canal irrigation systems and smaller-scale pumping schemes, the irrigated acreage has more than doubled (Bureau of Agricultural Economics, 1980).
