Chapter VIII, on the meteorological; standard-frequency, and time signal; and space research satellite services, discusses the application of geostationary meteorological satellites in tracking and detecting tropical storms, hurricanes, and cyclones as well as predicting floods caused by snow melt run-off. Some of the scientific research mentioned is: propagation measurements, television images of earth and planets, investigation of weather effects, solar and astronomical observation, satellite transmitters, modulation methods, data switching and compensation, solar cell power systems, thermal control, and material research.
