Abstract:Fifty smokers and an equal number of non-smokers 15 to 18 years of age who were healthy high school students were examined using a new spirometric technique for measuring “endtidal” forced expiratory ...Fifty smokers and an equal number of non-smokers 15 to 18 years of age who were healthy high school students were examined using a new spirometric technique for measuring “endtidal” forced expiratory volume in 1 second. Twenty per cent of the smokers had a significant airway obstruction, whereas the non-smokers were all normal. By the conventional measuring technique of 1-second forced expiratory volume none of the students, smokers and nonsmokers alike, were found to have airway obstruction.Read More
