Abstract The article examines some recent French movies devoted to the question of the immigration such as Welcome (Lioret, 2009), Les mains en l’air (Goupil, 2010) and Le Havre (Kaurismaki, 2011). These films are interesting insofar as they connect the current memory of the undocumented migrants with the memory of the Holocaust. How these two memories interact in the movies ? Under what conditions, with which political issues? Such questions lead inevitably to consider the instrumentalization of the memory of the Holocaust and its resurgence in a French society where the policy towards illegal migrants had become considerably tougher under the presidency of Nicolas Sarkozy.Read More
