Title: LABORATORY EVALUATION OF A COMPOSITE FLYWHEEL ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM
Abstract: This paper describes the laboratory evaluation of a composite flywheel energy storage system which was designed for a small battery/flywheel electric vehicle in the 3,000 lb class. The basic concept which has been demonstrated and evaluated in the laboratory consists of a flywheel energy storage package operating from a DC power source. Based on the results of these tests, it is concluded that a flywheel energy storage system can be designed for electric vehicle application wherein braking energy can be regeneratively stored in the flywheel.
