Abstract: Abstract Federal law enforcement in the United States is unique among the world's national law enforcement communities in that it is characterized by narrow authorities and specialized functions, with considerable deference paid toward the police powers of the states. Even so, it is a large law enforcement community made up of dozens of agencies and over 100,000 officers and agents.
