Title: Other Contributions: Individual and Combined Effect of Meloidogyne incognita and M. javanica on Four Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) Cultivars in Venezuela
Abstract: The individual and combined effect of Meloidogyne incognita and M. javanica on tobacco cultivars 'NC 95', 'Hicks', 'Ky 9' and Paraguachi was evaluated according to the following characteristics of the plants: height, number, length, width, proportion length/width, fresh weight, dry weight and proportion dry weight/fresh weight of the leaf; fresh weight, dry weight and dry weight/fresh weight of the stem and roots; and nematode index. Twenty plants of each variety were inoculated with 4 egg masses for the individual treatments and 4 + 4 for the combination of both species. Results indicated that a selected line of 'Paraguachi', a Venezuelan dark tobacco, is a potential source for the development of varieties resistant to M. incognita, and that cultivar 'NC 95' maintains its resistance against the Venezuelan population VTI-1 of this species. The population VTJ-1 of M. javanica did not significantly affect development or characteristics of flue-cured tobaccos 'Hicks' and 'NC 95', confir
