Title: Trends In And Determinants Of Agricultural Productivity: A Study Of Chittoor District Of Andhra Pradesh
Abstract: Agriculture as a basic industry plays a prominent role in the process of economic development of every country. Without achieving substantial increase in agricultural production no country has moved to the take-off stage of economic development. Agricultural production has played a crucial role in the determination of the wages of agricultural labour. In emphasising the role of the agriculture in the development of the Indian economy, it is observed, if one sector limits the growth of the other, it is more likely to be a case of agricultural growth limiting non-agricultural sector rather than vice-versa. Chittoor district is no exemption. There are a number of studies on the agricultural sector of the district. However, the type of study undertaken here on the ‘trends in and determinants of agricultural productivity’ is very rare and helps in successful implementation of several programmes to improve the agricultural productivity in the district. To study the ‘trends in agricultural productivity’ simple regression equation was taken. To study the ‘determinants of agricultural productivity’ the multiple regression analysis was carried out. A positive and significant increasing trend was found in agricultural productivity. In view of determinants of agricultural productivity, it was found that agricultural productivity may be raised by increasing certain variables which are positively associated with agricultural productivity in the Chittoor district.
