The moderate successes to date in differentiating stem cells into neurons provide a glimpse of their potential, as well as our potential to manipulate them. Current approaches use a variety of methods, from in vivo implantation to in vitro differentiation. In this chapter, we review some of the approaches taken to differentiate embryonic stem cells, and discuss some of the characterization methods as well as the need for standardization of these methods to directly compare differentiation protocols.Read More
