Title: Factors contributing to the development of eating disorder in female athletes
Abstract: The purpose of this study is to examine university female athletes perceptions regarding what factors contribute to the development of eating disorder in female athletes. a total of 80 athletes from eight different female university teams. In order to analyze the importance assigned various influences by conceptual area, the scores assigned items within an area were summed and divided by the number of items to obtain a mean score by area. As may be recalled. athletes responded to each item on a 7 point scale (1=not at all important. 7=very important). Most female athletes perceived the causing factors to become eating disorder. especially sport relational factors. personality. and cultural factors were strongly perceived as the causing factors to develop in eating disorder. The athletes considered to the worry about overweight, feeling fat, dissatisfaction with body, and concerning with how to look. On the other hand, the items dislike conflicts and avoidances conflicts were gives lower scores by all athletes. Athletes were put stress on body fat by coaches, teammates, and trainers. Athletes also regard thin results better performance and tough minded athletes control weight Results from this study may be used to help develop preventive and early intervention programs. thus more effectively reducing eating disorder in the athlete population.
