Title: Water Resources Conflicts in Integrated River Basin Development The Case of Kävlinge River
Abstract: In this paper the river basin concept and the development strategies of the Kävlinge river basin are analyzed. The analysis indicates that the chosen development strategies are heavily dependent on socio-economic processes as changes in production conditions, technological renewal, legal priority, political and economic superiority. The strongest development factor is the urban growth and consequently the rising demand on water. Isolated single-purpose water development schemes have expanded to basinwide and multi-purpose water management problems. Specific local water demand conflicts have expanded to an inter-basin level. Lack of adaptation in water management rules have caused unforeseen ecological damages and suboptimal allocation of water resources.
