Abstract: Abstract This chapter does not attempt to make a survey of all the known controversies about capital. Instead, it does something much more modest. It takes one particular point, which has figured in many such controversies, and uses it as a means of pulling a part of the story together. This provides an interesting illustration of the way in which the history of John Hicks' studies can be of use to the modern economist.
