To illustrate these concepts as clearly as possible, this chapter uses the station of a metropolitan network, but the ideas are generic and can just as well apply to any other type of critical infrastructure, such as stadiums, airports, regional food supply centers, etc. Succinctly, to secure a vital infrastructure is to secure the set of its components against various hazards and threats, whether fortuitous or intentional. The efficient protection of an infrastructure calls for the upholding of confidentiality on various levels. The protection of a critical infrastructure calls for the establishment of a general security file which will breach every aspect, from the detailed analysis of the infrastructure, the identification of hazards and threats, to the potentially usable technologies. Controlled Vocabulary Terms critical infrastructures; hazards; protection; security Systems of Systems RelatedInformation
