Title: On a modification of sachs’ symmetric-tensor-antisymmetric-tensor theory from a quaternion representation of general relativity
Abstract: A recent theory of Sachs in which the quaternion field equations in the framework of general relativity are shown to be equivalent to a symmetric-tensor-antisymmetric-tensor formalism, is reconsidered in a modified form. These modifications consist mainly in using a general asymmetric affine connection and a matter Lagrangian density which is a function of spin connection in accordance with the covariance principle. Invariance of this Lagrangian under infinitesimal co-ordinate and spin transformations leads to the identities which demonstrate that the antisummetric part is, in this case, related to the spin angular momentum. Applying the usual variational formalism, we derive the field equations which are shown to be consistent with the invariance identities.
