Abstract: The three antigens of the Ok system, Oka (OK1), OK2, and OK3, are of very high frequency and located on the immunoglobulin superfamily (IgSF) molecule basigin (CD147) and encoded by BSG. Basigin is a receptor for Plasmodium falciparum invasion. The rare antigen-negative phenotypes result from single amino acid substitutions on basigin. There is little information on the clinical significance of Ok antibodies.
