Abstract: Summary Problem‐solving and decision‐making within a multi‐professional context is an important aspect of an educational psychologist's (EP's) role. How rational and how trustworthy are the decisions that emerge from these situations? The literature suggests that decision‐making may often fall far short of the optimum and this view was supported by the present study into the work of child protection case conferences. Evidence is presented that indicates that decisions may be affected by a ‘no‐conflict’ norm amongst professionals. Recommendations are made for improving the quality of decision‐making.
