Title: Late Carboniferous and Permian Stratigraphy of a Part of Northeastern British Columbia
Abstract: ABSTRACT A revised classification of late Carboniferous and Permian rocks of a part of northeastern British Columbia is presented. This classification appears to be the most convenient for surface mapping in this region and, since no new names are introduced, correlation of surface with subsurface sections in the Plains area to the east is simplified. The Stoddart Group overlies the Prophet Formation and comprises a lower Golata Formation and an upper Kiskatinaw-Taylor Flat Formation. These Mississippian and Pennsylvanian strata are overlain unconformably by the Fantasque Formation. The name Fantasque Formation was given to bedded chert and sandstone units of Permian age in the Northwest Territories and is, in this paper, extended southwest to this part of British Columbia and applied to strata of the same lithology and, apparently, the same age. Fossil collections from the area with their approximate locations are listed and their significance regarding the age of the various formations is discussed.
