Abstract: Abstract Italian. Born Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti in Caprese, Republic of Florence, Tuscany, on March 6, 1475. The second of five sons, his father was Lodovico di Leonardo di Buonarotti di Simoni, a local magistrate, and his mother was Francesca di Neri del Miniato di Siena. A prodigy from his youth, Michelangelo came to embody the Renaissance ideal, mastering the disciplines of sculpture, painting, architecture, and poetry. The majority of his works are religious in nature and serve not only as the epitome of Renaissance beauty but also as the ideal representation of the biblical characters they portray.
