Title: Hospital "Comandante Manuel Fajardo": El más antiguo de los que funcionan actualmente en Cuba
Abstract: El primer antecedente del Hospital Clinicoquirurgico Docente Comandante Manuel Fajardo se remonta a los anos finales de la segunda mitad del siglo XVI. Segun datos obtenidos en documentos del archivo de Indias, el gobernador don Juan Maldonado y Barrionuevo fundo en Cristobal de La Habana un hospital denominado San Felipe el Real o de San Felipe y Santiago, cuya construccion comenzo en 1597 con los 4 o 5 mil pesos obtenidos de la venta de los almacenes donde se guardaban los pertrechos de las galeras de resguardo, al suprimirse este servicio.
