Abstract: This article provides an overview of legal reform in China since 1995 and outlines the articles included in the special issue of The China Quarterly. The issue contains articles on the topics of public security, the role of the court, legislation about business activity and corporate governance, family law, and China’s role in the international system. This introduction concludes that many of China’s legal characteristics have remained the same.
