This interest has been particularly stimulated by advances in the past decade that have permitted more accurate diagnosis and safer technics for surgical correction of selected cases. The typical radiographic appearance and the clinical signs and symptoms of symptomatic diaphragmatic hernias are well known to every clinician. However, in a review of the literature on the subject of diaphragmatic hernia it becomes apparent that the extent and ramifications of potential complications have not been fully appreciated.
