For an Australian or other reader with little knowledge of this part of central Europe, these publications offer a rewarding and interesting exploration. They particularly bring to the fore the depth and breadth of scholarship on music history of the region of present day Slovenia and Ljubljana itself, while also being well inclusive of wider musicological topics. The growth in musicological scholarship relating to the Slovenian geographic region, as well as growth in awareness of its importance in musical history, is further highlighted by the inclusion of a segment on Slovenian musical history in George J. Buelow's A History of Baroque Music. This segment within Buelow's history was in fact written by Metoda Kokole whose contributions figure prominently below.1 Additional informationNotes on contributorsKathleen Nelson Senior Lecturer in Musicology at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, The University of Sydney.
