The chapter describes the air interface, the radio and core networks of UMTS and CDMA2000, as well as several relevant procedures such as mobility and session management. The WCDMA air interface for UMTS is described by detailing the spreading and despreading operation, multipath reception by means of a Rake receiver, power control and soft handover. Then the UMTS radio interface protocol architecture is introduced. Similarly for CDMA2000, the different CDMA2000 air interface standards, namely CDMA2000 1xRTT, CDMA2000 EV-DO and CDMA2000 EV-DV, are presented. This is followed by a description of the radio access network and radio interface protocol architectures for CDMA2000Read More
