Title: The Position of the Central Stars of Planetary Nebulae in the Hertzsprung-Russell Diagram
Abstract: The methods for determining the effective temperature of the nuclei of planetary nebulae are reviewed. The determination of the radius on luminosity are also discussed. Special attention is given to the very high temperature objects. Distance determinations are reviewed, as well as determination of the nebular mass. A comparison of the observations with theory is given, and it is concluded that the mass of the central star is often ~0.5 M⊙ but that the very high temperature objects must be ~1 M⊙ or more.
