Title: Open-Loop Control for Digital Power Electronics
Abstract: This chapter talks about open-loop control, which is the main control scheme for all digital control systems. A large number of the industrial applications of the converters are open-loop control systems. The chapter talks about using digital control for the power electronics, especially for the switching circuits' control. The fundamental problems in different converters are stability analysis, unity-step responses, and impulse—interference—responses; those three basic problems are the general characteristics of all control systems, including all digital control systems. The chapter explains how the general problems of all control systems can be overcome. Open-loop control systems have many drawbacks in the aspects: stability, unit-step response, and impulse response. The chapter describes how closed-loop control can overcome these problems, and obtain good performances in all aspects. The chapter discusses how various controllers function in the closed-loop control systems enhance the converters' characteristics and improve the load's technical features.
