Title: Dimensions in Space of “Desertification” or Land Degradation: Their Degree and Specificity in Each Continent
Abstract: The drylands of the world, i.e., the arid, the semi-arid and the dry subhumid ecozones, which according to our definition are threatened by land degradation, occupy 35% of the Earth’s land surface and contain 20% of its population. Even though the only global assessment of the spatial extent of desertification, given by UNEP, has been critized, it deserves to be quoted (Ahmad and Kassas 1987).
