A traditional video often leaves the student as a passive viewer, while an interactive video will engage the student and demand interactions, thus activating the student. Interactive videos include the use of (embedded) quizzes, link-chains, interactive maps and interactive use of 3D-objects. The application areas differ between the different categories of interactive video. The main application areas for interactive videos with quiz are both summative and formative assessment. Interactive video with links has a variety of application areas, like reflections, attitude change, evaluation, case-based teaching, causal effects and nested stories. The main application areas of videos with interactive 3Dobjects are visualization, demonstration, presentation and exploration. The interviewees did not see a wide application area of videos with interactive maps, but problem solving activities were emphasized. Interactive videos in general would activate the student and raise awareness towards the video content. The paper also discusses the differences between interactive presentation tools and interactive video tools and presents the opportunities and weaknesses of a number of interactive video tools.Read More
