Title: Findings and results of three years accelerated testing of typical heavy duty pavements - an overview
Abstract: More than five million loading passes have been applied to 27 pavement sections during four major trials with the accelerated loading facility (alf). The first three trials were conducted on typical heavy duty pavements used by Australian state road authorities (SRAS), whilst the fourth trial is focussing on the performance of marginal slag materials. This paper summarises the major findings of the alf trials completed to date. They have contributed to a better understanding of pavement behaviour, performance and failure mechanisms for a range of pavement types and test conditions. Future trials are targeted at overlay design and technologies as well as the performance of novel materials (a).
