Title: Intratympanic gentamicin therapy for meniere’s disease
Abstract: Early attempts of topical therapy for Meniere's Disease by instillation of an aminoglycoside (150mg-4.2g of Streptomycin) was by Schuknecht in 19571 not surprisingly this was given up mainly due to the cochleotoxic effects of the drug resulting in an average 62% hearing loss in the 8 patients treated. Intratympanic Gentamicin for the treatment of Meniere's Disease has been tried as early as 19782 and is now back in vogue evidenced by the recent spate of articles in almost all international journals of otolaryngology.
