Title: Chemical Abundances in Planetary Atmospheres
Abstract: The most recent spectroscopic determinations of abundances in planetary atmospheres appear to support the traditional classification of the planets into two major groups. Several possible anomalies within this classification such as the large amount of water on Earth, the abundance of H2S in the atmosphere of Jupiter and the values of C/H in the atmospheres of the outer planets suggest directions for future research. Additional investigation of Jupiter's atmosphere may provide some useful insights into prebiotic organic chemistry in addition to an opportunity for the determination of relative abundances in the primitive solar nebula.
