Title: Evolution of the network supporting SMDS to B-ISDN
Abstract: The authors present a possible evolution scenario for the network access architecture and protocol supporting switched multi-megabit data services (SMDS) and a proposal for the interworking of the metropolitan area network (MAN) and asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) technologies. In doing so, they briefly described the broadband integrated service digital network (B-ISDN) and SMDs interface protocols and the respective access architectures. A key underlying assumption is that the SMDS features and attributes seen by the customer remain uniform throughout the evolution to B-ISDN. >
