Title: MUTLI-DISCIPLINE DESIGN TEAMS FOR TRANSPORTATION FACILITIES
Abstract: MULTI-DISCIPLINED PLANNING, COMPLETE WITH CITIZEN PARTICIPATION, SHOULD BE UTILIZED TO GIVE COMMUNITY VALIDATION TO BROADER TRANSPORTATION CONCEPTS. DESIGN TEAMS MUST BE PUT TO WORK EARLIER IN THE GAME, AND MORE PEOPLE MUST BE INVOLVED IN THE DESIGN PROCESS. AT THE REGIONAL LEVEL, ALL OF THE SOCIAL AND PHYSICAL NEEDS AND GOALS OF THE COMMUNITY SHOULD BE FACTORED INTO A SERIES OF OBJECTIVES FOR REGIONAL GROWTH WITH GUIDELINES FOR TRANSPORTATION SERVICES ON AN INTER-MODAL BASIS. AT THE CORRIDOR LEVEL, THE PROCESS SHOULD FOCUS ON ALL FACETS OF THE COMMUNITY WHICH ARE TO BE IMMEDIATELY AFFECTED. AT THE PROJECT LEVEL, PLANNING ON A SCALE AND TYPE NOW BEING PERFORMED CAN BE IMPLEMENTED. THERE ARE MORE POTENTIAL BARRIERS TO A SUCCESSFUL PROJECT IN THE POLITICAL ARENA THAN IN THE COMMUNITY ARENA. /DOT/
