The impact of delimited spatial areas on the strengths of political parties and their representation in legislatures is referred to following the1 March 2006 South African local government election. Legislation, structures and processes are assessed, as well as the consequences of the 2004-2005 ward delimitation process in the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality. Suggestions are made as to what an ideal local government ward should look like. The difficulties in achieving fair representation at ward level, and how delimitation processes could be improved to achieve fair representation, are discussed.Read More
