Title: Measurement of Solo Instrumental Music Performance; A Review of Literature.
Abstract: Musical performance evaluation is undertaken repeatedly during instrumental music instruction. Instrumental music lessons, band and orchestra rehearsals, seating tryouts, concerts, and festival performances are all examples of situations that require performance evaluation, and the success of many instrumental music programs is measured in large part by the quality of the public performances that are developed through the use of evaluative processes. Researchers have attempted to construct a number of measures to evaluate various aspects of solo and group instrumental music performance. This review will focus on those studies dealing with solo instrumental music performance measurement and their implications for future research in performance measurement.
