Her work has been translated int...Few writers have achieved the range or distinction of Jane Yolen, whose oeuvre includes stories, reviews, and well-known books such as Owl Moon and Devil's Arithmetic. Her work has been translated into a dozen languages, including Japanese, Afrikaans, Xhosa, and Braille. While she has published nearly 300 children's and adult books on fantasy, science fiction, and the art of writing itself, it is Yolen's connection to folklore that is the foundation of her work, earning her the titles “America's Hans Christian Andersen” and “the Aesop of the Twentieth Century.” She believes that folklore “is the universal human language” for which children have an instinctive affinity.
