Abstract: After paying off the Trackers and Skyhawks naval aviation is now expanding. Most future warships are likely to have aircraft embarked. The paper describes present naval aviation activities and the scale of investment to provide aircraft at sea and suggests that costs need to be analysed to see if greater efficiency is possible and industry can contribute more. Future equipment requirements are discussed broadly and emphasis is placed on industry ability to adapt equipment. A need is identified to match industry skills with foreseen lead times.
