Title: Thermal dissolution of solid fuels (a survey)
Abstract: At the present time the attention of researchers is concentrated on the search for new methods of producing natural gas and petroleum substitutes. A real source for the production of chemical products (feedstock for organic synthesis) and motor fuels is solid fuel converted to liquid products and gas. There are 31 known methods for gasification and 25 for liquefaction. Of these processes it is interesting to note the recent development outside the Soviet Union of a process for treating coal or shale with solvents. The present survey discusses three important problems related to thermal decomposition of solid fuels: the selection of the feedstock; know-how; and the methods of investigation and properties of the products.
