Title: Digital Flight Control System Redundancy Study
Abstract: Abstract : Redundancy requirements and trade-off criteria are established for flight critical digital flight control systems with particular emphasis on the fly-by-wire application. The use of general purpose digital computers is considered, with self-test and cross-channel comparison monitoring techniques to obtain the necessary flight safety reliability. A reliability model is presented which includes the effects of detected and undetected failures and provides a basis for establishing in-flight and preflight test coverage requirements consistent with a given reliability goal.
