Title: Internet Addiction in Relation to Adult Attachment: A Study of University Students
Abstract: The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between adult attachment styles and Internet addiction among university students. 344 students from different undergraduate programs of Fatih Faculty of Education in Karadeniz Technical University comprised the sample of the study. Of these students, 236 (%68.6) were female and 108 (%31.4) were male. Demographic Data Form, Adult Attachment Scale and Internet Addiction Scale were used as data collection instruments. In the analysis of the data, Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient and multiple linear regression analysis were utilized. Pearson product-correlation coefficient yielded a significant and positive relationship between Internet addiction and pre-occupied attachment style, on the other hand there were no significant relationship between Internet addiction and other attachment styles. According to the results of multiple linear regression analysis, pre- occupied attachment style emerged as a significant predictor of Internet addiction. These findings were discussed in line with the relevant literature and some recommendations were made. Keywords: adult attachment, Internet addiction, university students.
