A large depth of phase only modulation based on the electro-optical characteristics of an electro-optic crystal and a liquid crystal layer have been obtained. For practical purposes, we have developed a nonpixelized, electrically addressed spatial light modulator such as electron beam addressed spatial light modulator (EBSLM) and LCD coupled PAL-SLM.
