Title: Evaluation System for the Analysis of Modulation Strategies for Current Source Converters used in FACTS
Abstract: Modulation techniques have been the subject of intensive research during last decades. They are used for generating switching patterns for several converter topologies. Nowadays, there are many proposals of modulation strategies applied to current source converters (CSC) and to voltage source converters (VSC). This paper presents an evaluation system for analyzing the characteristics, advantages and drawbacks of several modulation techniques used in CSC. This tool includes the study of carrier-based techniques and space-vector techniques. Implementation in rapid prototyping system SimulinkregdSPACEreg is described, simulation and experimental results obtained in 4 kVA current source converter are given. This CSC converter is working as a static synchronous series compensator (SSSC). This evaluation system shows the operation, characteristics and properties of each modulation
