Title: Interpersonal skills training for optometry students: What should be taught?
Abstract: In recent years, greater recognition has been given to the need to systematically train optometry students in specific interpersonal skills. One difficulty facing the teacher responsible for such a program is to decide what skills need to be taught. It is the purpose of this paper to review research on health professionals’ interpersonal skills and to provide a theoretical basis for the selection of material to be included in a program for optometry students. From this basis, specific recommendations on the necessary skills will be made.
