Abstract: British journal editors and medical societies are calling for the establishment of a national watchdog body to investigate allegations of research fraud and other misconduct and to promote good research practice. Alarmed by the rising number of misconduct accusations and the lack of any mechanism for investigating them, these groups believe that Britain needs an equivalent of the U.S. Office of Research Integrity.
