Title: Irrigation management on peasant lives: a study of Bonkola village in Pabna district.
Abstract: This paper mainly deals with irrigation especially minor irrigation practices of peasants in agricultural sectors and also strategies to adapt to diverse and complex agro-ecological and socio-economic environments in a selected village in Bangladesh. It also seeks to explore the existing socio-economic situation with regard to supposed newer social alignments brought about by the installation and operation of the irrigation system through shallow tubewell. The paper tries to elucidate the new agricultural technology and high yield varieties of seeds particularly IRRI paddy and onion introduced since the seventies for increasing crop production, particularly socio-economic and cultural developments of peasants and also directly related to agricultural development in general. The paper is basically based on the information obtained from a village called Bonkola of Pabna district thorough five months of intensive fieldwork with two phases during the irrigation period of paddy’s agricultural land from March 30 to May 15, 2007 and also at the final stages January 05, 2008 to March 22, 2008 during 2007-2008 for the researcher’s MSS Advanced Research Monograph.
