Title: RESTRICTION OF FEED INTAKE AND COMPENSATORY GROWTH RESPONSES IN PIGS
Abstract: In a respiration trial with two groups each of four pigs the effect of early nutrition on subsequent performance and nitrogen and energy metabolism was studied. The restriction of feed intake of about 45% in the period from 5 to 25 kg W improved daily weight gain and feed efficiency in the fattening period combined with a higher daily protein and water deposition. As a result of the faster growth the pigs gained less fat in the whole experimental period.
