Title: LOAD EQUIVALENCY FACTORS FOR RIGID AND COMPOSITE PAVEMENTS
Abstract: A three-dimensional, dynamic finite element method (3D-DFEM) is used to analyze the effect of asphalt overlays on concrete pavement performance. Also, the effect of reflected cracks developed in asphalt overlays is studied. Load equivalency factors (LEF's) for concrete pavements are presented and the effect of asphalt overlays on LEF's is discussed. Moving loads and realistic material models were used in the analysis. The 3D-DFEM was verified in two steps for asphalt and concrete pavements, first for static, linear elastic analysis and then for dynamic non-linear analysis.
