Abstract: A review of 52 unselected cases of benign breast masses operated on at the University College Hospital Ibadan, showed that fibroadenoma was the most common benign lesion found, followed by fibrocystic disease of the breast. Fibroadenoma is most common in the second and third decades of life, usually in nulliparous young women, whereas fibrocystic disease is most common in the fifth decade, usually in parous women. Benign breast lesions are more common in the left breast than the right, and the most common location is the upper outer quadrant.
