Title: Hazardous waste management for power plants
Abstract: Hazardous waste management is the systematic control of collection, source separation, storage, transportation, processing, treatment, recovery, and disposal of hazardous wastes. Further, most practices in managing hazardous wastes are the same at coal and nuclear power plants as they are at oil/natural gas fired power plants operated, for example, by San Diego Gas and Electric Company. The reason is that waste streams are similar at all of these plants. Because environmental protection laws usually are a controlling factor in hazardous waste management, a review is worthwhile. For example, the Clean Air Act (CAA) of 1963 was enacted to prevent and control discharges of substances that may harm public health or natural resources. There also now are many local emission standards.
